Freeze Dryer
Freeze-drying is the smoothest process for drying products and is the best method for drying organic or inorganic compounds without altering their qualitative or quantitative composition. The process of lyophilization is carried out under vacuum and at low temperature and thus, for example, it is possible to avoid denaturation of proteins. Food and biological materials such as cells, tissues, bacteria and vaccines become dry products, avoiding the passage through their liquid phase, and consequently enzymatic, biological and chemical changes.
A freeze-drier is composed of the following parts: dry chamber or freeze-drying chamber: it is the place where the substance to be freeze-dried is placed, condenser with refrigeration circuit: it communicates with the dry chamber and it is where the vapor that is produced in the sublimation condenses and finally a vacuum system.
Types of Freeze Dryer a Laboratory may need
Benchtop Laboratory Freeze Dryer
The lyophilizer is widely used in medicine, pharmacy, biological research, chemical industry and food production, etc. After the freeze-drying process, the long-term preservation of the products is much easier. They can be restored to their original state and maintain their chemical and biological characteristics after being watered.
Benefits of lyophilization over other techniques:
- You get products that can regenerate very quickly.
- The shape and characteristics of the final product are essentially the original.
- It is an ideal process for drying heat-labile substances.
- Oxidable constituents are protected.
- The final moisture content is very low.
Vertical Laboratory Freeze Dryer
Freeze-drying is considered one of the safest and most widely used techniques for sample preparation in the pharmaceutical industry. It has been used in the conservation of biological materials such as blood plasma, serum, hormones, and biologically complex pharmaceuticals such as vaccines, serums and antidotes, as well as in many different research projects in this industry, since this process offers the excellent retention of the molecular structures of biological samples.
That is why lyophilizers are of vital importance in the pharmaceutical area, since the process carried out in these equipment aims to reduce the lability of these delicate components present in the formulation.
